Responsibility for Children's Religious Education: a Study of Indonesian Muslim Career Parents

Abstract

The responsibility of parents in providing religious education to children is a non-negotiable necessity. Religious education is very necessary to be given early to children, religious values that have been internalized since childhood will be a strong moral fortress for children in the masses to come. Educating children is a very noble task. In the household, the role of parents is very urgent, therefore it is in the household that a child first obtains guidance and education from his parents, their responsibilities should not be delegated everything to others, even though the child has entered school age. Parents are the founders of the formation of the child's personality and intelligence that affects his future. Religious education in the family has a crucial role in shaping children's character and spiritual values. However, in the context of career families, where both parents have busy professional lives, the practice of religious education faces its own challenges. This study aims to explore the pattern of religious education in career families in Indonesia and the factors that influence it. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, the research involved in-depth interviews with parents and children from career families in different regions. The results show that although time constraints are the main obstacle, career families still try to instill religious values through joint activities, the use of technology, as well as support from the social environment and religious institutions. This finding confirms that religious education in career families requires adaptive strategies to remain effective in shaping children's spirituality.
